🌼 JOSEPHINE NETWORK :
Josephine Network is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and shapeshifting yenta from New York.
She cut her teeth fronting power-pop glam bands The Jeanies & Velveteen Rabbit, and playing guitar in Brower.
“Music is Easy” (Dig!) is her debut solo album of original songs in glittering “soul-gum” style. Her songs are sincere, soulful and sometimes sly. In 2019, her performance at OK, LQQK was written up in The Forward (“It’s Not Your Bubbe’s Drag Show”) . In 2020, she was a GiantFest Best Music Artist nominee. In 2021, “Music Is Easy” was featured on a special mixtape episode of NPR’s This American Life (“746: This is Just Some Songs”).
She plays live with an 8-piece ensemble, featuring Toni Lynn (Apache), Saara Untracht-Oakner (SUO, Boytoy), Nat Brower (Brower, Nancy), Keith Cayea (Brooklyn Bluebirds), Dorian Deangelo (Darien Rectangle), Max Hiersteiner (Dirty Fences, Hershguy) and Jay Pluck (EKP).
In early 2021, she produced a Yiddish-infused glam-punk collab album with Hershguy titled “Stocky Tunes”. Maximum RocknRoll called the album “refreshingly hard to put your finger on, but so good”.
In summer of 2021, Josephine self-produced a dance cassingle, “I Feel Like Rain” on Paris Tapes. The Deli Magazine called it a “groovy, vibey-yet-upbeat, danceable-yet-introspective, life-affirming tune.”
In mid-2021, the Josephine Network band went electric and enjoyed opening for legendary rock acts, like Shannon & the Clams, and Seth Bogart (Hunx & His Punx)
🌼 SUO
Perhaps best known for her work with BOYTOY, NYC musician and artist Saara Untracht-Oakner presents a personal collection of new songs that erupt with a broad spectrum of sprawling melodies and sticky emotions.
SUO oozes with the dominant heat of a New York summer!
Recorded in Mexico City over the course of a month, this sophomore offering screams with the energy that SUO’s live shows are known for.
Working with producer Pablo Valero (of Santa Sabina) to translate her electrifying stage presence into a recorded form, SUO constantly blurs the lines of feminine and masculine energy in a post-gender eruption of androgynous power!
The record includes playing from Josephine (of The Josephine Network), Max Hersh (of Dirty Fences) and Nat Brower (of Brower), whom will be joining SUO on stage in Aotearoa.
Saara’s songwriting draws inspiration from a range of legendary artists including Brian Eno, Lou Reed, Big Star and Grace Jones, yet this record manages to sound truly her own.
SUO is an amalgamation of almost 20 years of songwriting, over 10 years of national and international touring and a fierce insatiable craving for growth, exploration and creation, something that makes its presence known on this powerful new record.
🌼 CLAIMED CHOICE
Short haired rock and roll made in Lyon, France. On ne sait rien de plus si ce n’est que c’est bien – surtout quand 3 têtes bien connues de Lyon se retrouvent derrière des guitares.
